1/4 mile beautiful rural walk to the Kennet and Avon canal where narrow boats, motor boats and bicycles can be hired to chug along the waterway and visit the numerous pubs and tea houses dotted along this delightful tree-lined stretch of the canal.
6 miles boat or cycle ride into the centre of Bath or 4.5 miles to the picturesque old woollen milling town of Bradford on Avon with its tiny Saxon Church and magnificent ancient Tithe Barn, not to mention the numerous drinking and eating establishments beckoning temptingly on the winding streets of this pretty Wiltshire town.

1/4 mile from the new twin tunnels Sustrans cycle path linking the cities of Bath and Bristol with the Somerset countryside at the tiny hamlet of Tucking Mill.This motley collection of six houses lies beside a lake which is now stocked with trout for the pleasure of disabled fishermen.

In the 1790's, the lakeside cottage was occupied by William Smith the internationally acclaimed 'Father of English Geology' who, through his work on the canal and the local mines, theorised that rocks were laid down in layers over periods of time. In 1815 he published the first geological map of Britain. His world-changing observations - now called rock strata, and accepted globally -  were researched whilst living in this country cottage in a hamlet of half a dozen houses. Geologists come from round the world to worship at this simple shrine, which is now a family home.
